Project Introduction:

This project investigates the design standardization of in-vivo (in life) enteric methane quantification towards IPCC Tier 3 estimation models, in order to collect more rapid and bigger scientific-quality data than available in current systems. The research project investigates the design parameters of the physical systems engineering, data measurement and animal husbandry practices of livestock that affect diurnal emission cycles, for diverse animal emission trial procedures , especially focused on Thai and ASEAN livestock. Supporting existing feed nutrition research and quantification strategies, as used in IPCC Tier 2 models for nationally determined contributions.

The target problem is familiar in lower- and middle-income countries, including Thailand, where access to big data via (cheap/simple) data acquisition (on-farm and research-centers) will help encourage farmers towards wide-spread climate action via pathways to enteric methane mitigation.

  • We will host a forum and workshop event in 2026 on: (tentative title) “Knowledge/Research Exchange on Pathways to Encouraging Climate Action in Smallholder Livestock Farms across Thailand / ASEAN Countries” and towards a national policy recommendation.
